National Park Number One!

Today is Holy Saturday, a day of solemn waiting and reflection. We’ve been quite on-the-go this weekend, filling our moments with family, fun adventures, and good friends, but it’s important to stop and remember the great act of love Christ made for us on the cross. So we remember His death and we humbly give Him thanks.

We’ll properly celebrate His rising tomorrow on Easter, but really this whole weekend has been a celebration of the abundant life, love and beauty God has given us. On Thursday Matt and Aaron hiked Flagstaff Mountain while Ellen and I took the kids to a playground, nestled between a creek and a mountain. It seems like everywhere we look there is a natural wonder! On Friday we set off early to spend the day at Rocky Mountain National Park, our first of 15 National parks on this trip. Oh my. Matt’s the better writer in this family, and I have no words to describe the majestic beauty of those gentle giants we call the Rockies. We hiked an icy trail to a waterfall that was completely buried in snow, then hiked on to a frozen, snowy lake. We drove to a different part of the park and found a twisting river in which Matt, Ellen and Aaron (unsuccessfully) fished for trout while the kids and I played on the rocks. Our last trek was up a winding path to a breathtaking fan with rocks and flowing water. Beautiful.

Today Matt, Maggie and I drove to Littleton to visit his cousin, Ann. Maggie loved giving her dog, Dotty, treats and it was great visiting with Ann.
